Fake or Fact

Platform for independent and cross-cutting information

Information on the internet must become an individual resource of great reliability and value. The deep intention of this project is to recognize the potential that Internet can offer if used in a flexible way. The goal of this project is to create a transversal web platform that allows a range of actions that the user can do for a more aware and orderly search of information.

Goal

Fake or Fact is a digital platform designed to enhance media literacy by providing users with quick and easy access to diverse news sources. By aggregating online news outlets from different backgrounds and categorizing them based on nationality, credibility, political orientation, and themes, the platform encourages a more informed and critical approach to news consumption. Its goal is to make cross-referencing multiple sources seamless, fostering a more balanced and fact-based understanding of current events.

Design process

The platform was developed by analyzing how users engage with news online, particularly on social media. Research focused on the challenges of misinformation, filter bubbles, and the need for accessible fact-checking tools. User interviews and iterative design sessions helped refine the interface, ensuring effortless navigation between sources and the integration of social media content for comparison.

How it works

Fake or Fact features several key sections: a News Feed that presents articles based on user-selected filters, a Viral section that compiles trending posts from social media, and an interactive Fake or Fact game that helps users practice distinguishing real from fake news. Additionally, Hoaxy visualizes how news spreads on Twitter, allowing users to detect potential misinformation patterns, while the Sources section provides detailed profiles of news outlets, helping users assess credibility at a glance.
